Why I Built Venew

Over the years, I have had the privilege of meeting and talking with many different people. Students looking for scholarships, graduates searching for jobs, entrepreneurs trying to grow their businesses, professionals looking for career opportunities, and young people who simply wanted a chance to improve their lives. Although their stories were different, I noticed that many of them shared one common experience. Very often, I would hear someone say, "I wish I had known about it earlier." Sometimes they were talking about a scholarship that had already closed. Sometimes it was a grant they discovered after the application deadline had passed. Other times it was a conference, a fellowship, a training programme, or even a community that could have helped them, but they only found out after everything was over. At first, I thought these were isolated situations, but the more I paid attention, the more I realised that this was happening everywhere. The problem was not that opportunities did not exist. The problem was that people were not discovering them early enough. Many opportunities are hidden in places that the average person may never think to look. Some are shared in private WhatsApp groups. Some are buried inside long social media timelines. Others are published on websites that very few people know about. There are also opportunities that spread only through personal networks, meaning that if you do not know the right person, you may never hear about them. What made this even more painful was that many of the people who missed these opportunities were exactly the people those opportunities were created for. They were qualified. They were interested. They were ready to apply. The information simply never reached them. That was the moment I began asking myself an important question. What if discovering opportunities was much easier than it is today? What if there was one place where people could discover scholarships, grants, fellowships, internships, conferences, workshops, communities, volunteering opportunities, competitions, and other life-changing opportunities without depending on luck or personal connections? That simple question became the beginning of Venew. When I first started working on Venew, many people naturally saw it as an event discovery platform, and that was a good place to begin. Events are important because they bring people together, help people learn, and create opportunities for growth. However, as I continued building and speaking with more people, I realised that the vision was much bigger than events alone. Venew is about discovery. It is about helping people discover opportunities they never knew existed. It is about helping organisers reach the people who genuinely need what they are offering. It is about helping businesses become more visible. It is about helping communities grow. It is about connecting people with information that has the potential to change the direction of their lives. My hope is that one day, whenever someone is looking for a scholarship, a grant, an internship, a professional event, a learning programme, a business, or a community, Venew will be one of the first places they think of. We are still at the beginning of that journey, and there is still a lot of work ahead. Every feature we build, every opportunity we publish, and every improvement we make is another step towards that vision. If Venew can help one student discover a scholarship, help one entrepreneur find funding, help one graduate find an internship, help one organiser reach more people, or help one community connect with those who need it most, then every hour spent building this platform will have been worthwhile. That is why I built Venew. Because I believe that opportunities have the power to change lives, but only when people are able to discover them.
